YOUR VICTORY IS GOD’S GLORY – Part 2
YOUR VICTORY IS GOD’S GLORY
BY: – REV. DR. JANET ONAOLAPO
In Joshua 2:8-11, Joshua sent two spies to Jericho. They lodged with Rehab and she said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.[ When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”
Rehab stressed to the spies that she and her people in Jericho had heard a lot of great stories and victories wrought for Israel by their God. She immediately told them not to forget her when they come to take over the city. That is what the fragrance of victory can do. The fragrance was so strong that Rehab could sense it immediately she saw the spies. That showed that the fragrance of God’s glory had already reached Jericho. May the victories which God will begin to wrought in your life send sweet perfume all around you, in every place, among the saints and among the perishing.
Your sickness, indebtedness, defeat, pain, shame, tears, sorrow, among others, does not give God glory. Only your victory does. Whenever there is victory, God takes His glory.
Victory means the following:
- Defeat of an opponent in battle,
- Success in a struggle against an enemy,
- Positive results,
- Landslide achievements,
- Favorable results.
Where there is no favorable result, landslide achievements, etc, there is no victory.
I am certain that after those two spies had spoken with Rehab, they went back to Joshua with full confidence and rejoicing knowing that they had already possessed the land. They got to know that the God who brought them victory would do it again.
Sometimes, when you think that you should be afraid of the devil, know that he is afraid of you.
The reason is that he is not as powerful as you think he is.
The Bible says, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me”. All authority has been taken from the devil and given to you.
John 11:1-4 says, “Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. Therefore, the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick. When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
Lazarus was a friend of Jesus and Jesus knew that he was sick. He would not be glorified by the sickness, but by health and life, so when He was informed about Lazarus’ sickness, He said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God.”
There are some things that devil starts in the lives of Christians, but God always takes it from him and turns the curse into a blessing to glorify Himself.
If you are a child of God, know that there is no permanent loss for you. There is no failure in your totality. Whatever you might have lost and you think is gone forever, I say to you today that there is no permanent loss. Lazarus lost his life, Jesus gave him victory over death and restored his life back to him. He was glorified.
II Sam. 23:9-10 says, “And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated. 10 He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder. “
As it happened with Eleazar, you might have fought with the challenge you are going through and have become very weary or perhaps you don’t know what to do about it anymore, yet you do not want to give up because the battle is still on. It is not yet over but your hands are very weary. Even when others in your position have given up, you still continue to struggle just to come out victorious. As you continue in that spirit, God Himself will bring down victory for you. Your victory is His glory.
The parable in Luke 15:11-22 is a picture of a spiritual victory. The prodigal son, took his inheritance and left his father’s house into the world where he wasted his substance with riotous living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then when he came to his senses, he repented and decided to go back to his father. On coming back home, he realized that his father had been awaiting his return because his victory over worldliness and his sinful lifestyle would give glory to the father. It didn’t matter to him how anybody felt but what mattered to him was that his son was back.
God is not excited when you struggle with that sinful nature; today you are living above sin, and tomorrow you are back to your old lifestyle. God does not take His glory over such. He will only be glorified if you can perpetually come out of it. That is when you can have victory, and God wil be glorified.
The Bible says, “Angels rejoice in heaven anytime a sinner is saved”. You can imagine the type of joy that emerges from a family that has been looking for a baby for several years. When a sinner repents and gives his life to Jesus, there is rejoicing in heaven. That is victory and God takes the glory.
Where do you fall into?
- For Lazarus, it was sickness and God gave him victory
- For the children of Israel, it was to take an inheritance that belonged to them and they got the victory.
- For Eleazer, he was fighting a battle and God gave him victory.
- For the prodigal son, it was a sinful life. He repented and God gave him victory.
This victory is not achieved by power or might but it is available only in Christ. Receive Him as your Lord and Saviour and you will become a candidate of victory. Pray for victory in every battle. Pray until you see something happen because the Bible says that it is only the effectual and fervent prayer of the righteous that avails much.
