YOUR VICTORY IS GOD’S GLORY – Part 1
YOUR VICTORY IS GOD’S GLORY
BY: – REV. DR. JANET ONAOLAPO
TEXT: II COR. 2:14-15.
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:” – KJV
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” – NKJV
To understand this scripture, consider the picture of one of the activities of the Romans from which Apostle Paul is very conversant. The picture is that of a solemn triumphant procession of a Roman Emperor or General, whose triumphs are celebrated. In his chariot and white horses, conquerors rode along a major road, followed by troops and prisoners, captive kings and princes and trophies of victory. Of course, there was a great multitude of spectators cheering on the conqueror in great jubilation.
Fragrant clouds of incense accompanied his march, rising from fixed altars or waved censers, rising to the sky. Incense is an essential part of any triumphant march of the Roman General. Most times, at the end of that celebration with a great multitude of spectators around, some of the prisoners are executed, some are thrown into the dungeon, some are set free or used as slaves as the case may be.
With this picture in mind, let us examine the scripture we just read in verse 14 which says, “Thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph and make manifest…”
Whenever a procession of victory goes on, everyone rejoices; both those who went for the war and those who did not. A procession is usually done in the presence of both the victors and the captives. That was why Apostle Paul said, “In the presence of them that are saved and they that are perishing, there is a procession of victory”.
Jesus Christ has won this victory for us. He goes before us, taking us behind Him as an army. He always goes before us and gives us victory so that we can give thanks to the Lord who always lead us through Christ to give us victory.
Shouldn’t you be glad that the person who is leading you is not a defeated person? He is someone who can never be defeated. He always goes ahead to give us victory daily and we stay behind Him marching triumphantly in the procession of our victory through Jesus. You are just a beneficiary of His victory. Aren’t you glad about this? If you have the privilege of watching how a victorious procession is performed, you will marvel at it. It is always a wonderful experience. God does not take glory in your defeat but only delights in your victory.
As Christians, we are always in conflict but the Bible makes us to understand that we wrestle not against flesh and blood…“ But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ – 1 Corinthians 15:57.
In every battle of our lives, Jesus fights and wins for us. He gives us the victory and God takes the glory. As a child of God, you need to understand that the victory in every area of your life is guaranteed because it is God’s Glory. Since He does not take glory in your defeat, know that He wants you to have victory in everything that concerns you (your business, marriage, family, life, etc) anytime, anywhere.
“Thanks be to God who giveth us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”. God will not give you a defeat. He always wants to give you victory so that the glory can always come back to Him.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came down from the cross, went down to the grave and took captivity captive, triumphed over everything and gave us victory. If Jesus could go through all those battles and pains just to give you victory, then that victory must perpetually manifest in your life.
In the Roman triumphant procession, sometimes people who are not even around the arena of the procession smell the fragrance of the procession incense. As they smell it, they know that there is a triumphant procession of victory. This implies that through you people (both saved and unsaved) will know and see the Glory of God everywhere.
It is important to stress that Jesus’ being the captain and our leader in everything is meant to lead in every battle because He sees and knows tomorrow from yesterday. This is why when He by the Holy Spirit gives you instructions or prompts you to do something, you need to do it because He knows everything and you know nothing.
Whenever you are in the presence of God and the Spirit is leading you to maybe dance, kneel, roll on the ground, bow down or lie down before Him, do not hesitate. You don’t have to consider or be moved by the person around you, your costly attire, etc, because it is Christ who is in you that is speaking to you. As the leader of your life and the captain of your destiny, you have to obey Him. You are a member of His team and you must listen to His commands because He is the one leading you to victory.
The Bible says, “Now thanks be to the Lord who daily cause us to triumph” – 2 Corinthians 2:14. Sometimes, you may wonder how it is like when people say that they do not hear from God. They ask, “Is it audible?” or you hear them say, “Something told me to…” Beloved, there is nothing like “Something”. As a child of God, it is the Spirit of God in you that is working in you and speaking to you.
Your life has to manifest God’s glory wherever you are. This glory manifestation is by your victory. I will use this illustration for you to understand what I am talking about. You will agree with me that you can sometimes know a person by the perfume he/she wears even from a distance or with your eyes closed. You just can sense it and have a knowledge of their presence even when they not nearby or around you. This is how God’s glory should radiate in your life for people to easily sense the presence of God in you. This glory is displayed by your Victory which is a good perfume. But if your life speaks or emits defeat which is a bad odor, you will sense or know that nobody wants to be anywhere around you.
For instance, if in the midst of your colleagues, you always have something to complain about, always telling tales of woes and problems of your life, a time will come when no one will want to be anywhere around you. The reason is that defeat is “a bad odour”. However, when you always have testimonies of victory, triumphs, blessings, etc, people will like to be around you. The glory of God will be seen in you and people will flock around you. You will automatically become a fragrance of God’s Glory.
It is your victory and not your defeat that speaks the glory.
